Education
Dr. Michael Hayes completed his 4 years of undergraduate courses at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. He later received his Bachelor of Science in Optometry from the University of Houston. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the College of Optometry at the University of Houston (Houston, Texas) in 1995. This institution consistently ranks among the best optometric institutions in the world.

Dr. Hayes completed an externship in 1994 at EyeCare Associates in Metarie, Louisiana. As this was as OD/MD owned surgical center, Dr. Hayes gained valuable experience in pre- and post-operative cataract surgical care, in addition to observing surgical procedures. He also gained experience in comprehensive eye exams and disease management. His second externship was completed at the New Orleans Naval Base (New Orleans, Lousiana) in the spring of 1995. Here he gained extensive experience in primary care optometry, while serving military personnel.
The doctor's personal interests are many and varied. Currently, he enjoys travel, art and museum exhibits, fishing and outdoor pursuits, fitness, financial education, and activities with his wife, Melanie, and his children.
Locally, Dr. Hayes has served on the Board of Health of the Marshall County Health Dept. and is on the allied health professionals staff of the local hospital (Marshall County Hospital, Benton). He also a member of the Purchase Physicians Organization.
